We are committed to increasing the level of carton recycling in the UK with the aim of reaching a 10% post-consumer recycling rate and widespread collection across the country via a number of different collection schemes e.g. kerbside or bring-bank collection, by 2008.
In the UK, local authorities and industry have made great strides in improving general recycling rates but carton collection and recycling still lag well behind European levels.
To address this problem, we have actively worked with other carton manufacturers and the paper industry since 2003 to improve the availability of carton recycling in the UK.
Through the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment UK (ACE UK), formerly known as the Liquid Food Carton Manufacturers Association (LFCMA), Tetra Pak and its industry partners have invested significant funds into developing carton recycling capacity in the UK.
The challenge now is to promote post-consumer carton collection schemes with local authorities and community recycling networks.
